Shena graduated with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy from the University of Otago in 2006. She
also has a Bachelor of Science majoring in Molecular Biology. In addition to being a
registered physiotherapist for over 14 years, Shena is a Level 2 Advanced Athletics Australia
Recreational Running Coach, Strength and Conditioning Coach and a Clinical Pilates
Instructor.
Shena has had extensive involvement in sporting teams and clubs including
- Rugby League
- Recreational Running
- Triathlon
- Dance
- Current physiotherapist Robert de Castella’s Indigenous Marathon Foundation
Since graduating from Physiotherapy, Shena has worked in a number of private practices
both in New Zealand and Australia. In these practices, Shena had the benefit of excellent
mentors in physiotherapy and gained experience in treating a wide variety of patients and
conditions. Whilst she has a special interest in lower limb injuries, Shena loves to treat
anything from headaches, neck pain and jaw dysfunction to post operative rehabilitation and
injury prevention. Over the past 10 years, Shena has worked to develop a special expertise in
treating runners, triathletes and anyone who loves to run.
Shena’s special passion has always been running. She herself has been a long distance runner
for over 30 years, and has competed extensively in triathlons from sprint to Ironman distance.
In 2004, she won her age group in the New Zealand Ironman and went on to compete in the
Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, (placing 15th in her age group and 75th
woman overall).
Shena uses a combination of manual therapy, run technique assessment, strength and
conditioning, movement analysis and coaching advice to help her patients not only overcome
injury but most importantly stay injury free and reach their sporting goals. She takes a special
interest in the running achievements of each patient and delights in seeing them completing
their first Parkrun or half marathon, achieving a PB in Ironman or winning a 200 mile Ultra
Marathon!
In her spare time, Shena continues to compete regularly in both road and trail running events
from 5km to ultra distance. She also loves a good family adventure with her husband and two
young children, be it trail walking, exploring Queensland or heading to the beach (as long as
there’s coffee at the end) 🙂
